“My work is best understood as multi-media. I include poetry, photography, spoken word, audio and performance, often employing several of these tools at once to create a dynamic expression which is hopefully received and understood on several levels. Themes that delineate the body of work included are irony, mythology, and the contradictions of modern womanhood. These themes are infused throughout with allegorical humor. My work thrives on the tension that occupies the proverbial gray areas in my life: between exhibitionism and art, fashion and fetishism, popular culture and canon. My self-portraits are a collection of female stereotypes -- not explicitly women as defined by men but women as they have been brought up to perceive themselves. The self portraits run the gamut from the demure housewife to the dominatrix, the sex kitten, the depressive, the paranoid silver screen star who is hiding from the paparazzi. I also explore mythological archetypes, humanize them, and apply them in a contemporary context. For example, Sleeping Beauty in her coma, knowing she will be stuck with whichever prince wakes her up.
